RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Honorable Kenneth J. Gray has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 89; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Kenneth J. Gray was a former United States Congressman and the loving husband of the Reverend Margaret "Toedy" and the late June; and

WHEREAS, A native of West Frankfort, the Honorable Kenneth J. Gray graduated from Frankfort Community High School; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Kenneth J. Gray served his country during World War II in North Africa, Italy France and central Europe as a member of the United States Army 12th Air Force; and

WHEREAS, A licensed auctioneer and a versatile entrepreneur, the Honorable Kenneth J. Gray operated the Gray Motors car dealership until 1954; and

WHEREAS, A Democrat, the Honorable Kenneth J. Gray represented his downstate district in the United States Congress from 1955 until 1974 and from 1985 to 1989; and

WHEREAS, Known for his colorful attire and persona on Capitol Hill, the Honorable Kenneth J. Gray won more than $7 billion in federal funding for projects in his area, including interstate highways, dams, housing, a federal prison, post offices and medical facilities; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Kenneth J. Gray serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Kenneth J. Gray to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Kenneth J. Gray will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Kenneth J. Gray imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirtieth day...
