To Whom It May Concern:
As full-fledged, dedicated members of Sunrise Baptist Church, we are requesting an honorary street sign in honor and dedication to our Pastor, J.E. Storey. He truly has a story to tell and has become a great pillar in the Community since 1990.
Our Church is located on the comer of Central Park along the side street of Fillmore. We originated from 1701 W. Roosevelt Street However, evolving from Pastor J.E. Storey's vision, a new church was built at 1101 S. Central Park in March 1999. At the inception of building this church, the neighborhood and the comers were highly infested with drugs. However, Pastor J.E. Storey remained steadfast in his preaching, teaching and canvassing this neighborhood compelling the lost to come to Christ. And as a result of that many people throughout the neighborhood joined and became outstanding members in the church. The flock is still growing by leaps and bounds due to his community outreach.
Every year Sunrise Baptist Church hosts food drives, clothes giveaways, outdoor prayers for the street comers, outreach ministry and picnics located right on our property. Also, he opens up the community center to feed children and homeless people lunches at various times during the summer. Presently, he has allowed UCAN Organization to use the community center facility to take job applications and conduct interviews which is an integral part of Lawndale Community rising up. With all this taking place, people are embracing Sunrise Baptist Church and Pastor J.E. Storey as a pillar of the community. Some major accomplishments since moving to 1101 S. Central Park, is that Sunrise Baptist Church added a Community Center to facilitate the congregation and community and purchased lots on Fillmore St. for more parking space for the church members.
Pastor J.E. Storey is a family man who retired in 2013 after working 34 years in the ITG fields, designing and modifying systems for such companies as: TTX, Ameritech, Chicago Bridge and Iron (Liquid Carbonic) and Blue Cross and Blue Shield. He is an amazing husband of 29 years to Dianne Storey, a father of 5 and grandfather of 14. The beauty of it all, he still has full time stamina for his church and congregation. He is a people's person and very approachable. Since retiring, he is available for counseling on a daily basis.
Therefore, Pastor J.E. Storey is truly worthy of this honor which would be a great surprise to this humbled man. As a dedicated, faithful congregation, we hope you consider this petition as it was written from the hearts of Sunrise Baptist Church.
Sincerely,

Patrick Worthy, Chairman of the Deacon Board
