WHEREAS, Rev. Joseph M. Jackson, Ph. D. served his faith and community in the Catholic Church for the past four decades; and
 
WHEREAS, Rev. Jackson grew up in River Grove, Illinois and graduated from Quigley High School in Chicago; and
 
WHEREAS, Rev. Jackson received his Bachelor of the Arts from Niles East Seminary and went on to earn a Masters of Theology from Mundelein Seminary; and
 
WHEREAS, Rev. Jackson earned his doctoral degree in psychology from the University of Chicago; and
 
WHEREAS, following Rev. Jackson's ordination as a priest in 1974 he served several parishes with Chicago and nearby suburbs; and
 
WHEREAS, Rev. Jackson came to St. Ignatius Church in 2001 and was made pastor in 2002; and
 
WHEREAS, while serving as pastor of St. Ignatius Church Rev. Jackson led the parish into a period of multiethnic vibrancy; and
 
WHEREAS, Rev. Jackson led renovation initiatives to beautify and update St. Ignatius Church for the 21st Century; and
 
WHEREAS, Rev. Jackson makes St. Ignatius Church a community of faith of the community by hosting CAPS meetings, serving the needy through the church's food pantry, and his support for catholic education; and
 
WHEREAS, Rev. Jackson's passion extends outside his work as a member of the clergy to his role as the number one fan of Loyola University basketball;
 
WHEREAS, the parishioners of St. Ignatius Church and the wider Rogers Park community are thankful for Rev. Jackson's four decades of service;
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this eighth day of October 2014 A.D., do hereby recognize October 25, 2014 to be "Rev. Joseph M. Jackson Day" in Chicago in honor of his faithful service to parishioners, the church and the community; and .
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Rev. Joseph M. Jackson.
