Retirement Resolution
WHEREAS, Jim Macdonald is retiring from his role as steward of Gompers Park, where he has been a documentarian of local flora and fauna in his writings for the North Mayfair Improver; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of this occasion by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Jim has served as a vice president at the North Mayfair Improvement Association for over 20 years, where he led the effort to transform a section of Gompers Park into a wetland home for local wildlife; and
WHEREAS, Jim has been active in the North Park Village Advisory Council, and has been a site captain with the Friends of the Chicago River; and,
WHEREAS, Jim's dedication to and stewardship of Gompers Park was only one of the many ways he has bettered his community and his world. Teaching anthropology to generations of grateful Northeastern Illinois University students is another; and,
WHEREAS, It is no surprise that those loons wanted to make their home in Gompers Park in the 39th Ward. Thanks to the work of good people like Jim, our North Mayfair community continues to thrive. Jim will be missed as steward of Gompers Park, his leadership and friendship will continue to be valued, now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this fifth day of November, 2014, do hereby express our gratitude for the stewardship of Jim Macdonald in protecting Gompers Park as a gift of nature to the City of Chicago, and honor Jim for a job well done, and an earned retirement; and
