asked to take his girlfriend's seven-year-old daughter for a walk to buy pizza on the 8600 block of South Burnham Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Once they were alone, the man told the girl that he had a secret to tell her, and he directed her into an alley and behind an abandoned house. The man threatened to kill the girl if she made noise, and, when she began to cry, he punched her, covered her face, and then violently sexually assaulted her; and
WHEREAS, When the child returned home, naked from the waist down and covered in mud and bruises, her mother contacted the police, but the child's assailant had fled the area; and
WHEREAS, Chicago Police Detectives Moreen K. Hanrahan (Star #20565), James E. Browne (Star #20026), Jose L. Castaneda (Star #21273), James F. Corcoran (Star # 20952), Sean B. Ford (Star #20203) and Ronald A. Jasica (Star # 20420) were tasked with investigating this violent crime; and
WHEREAS, The detectives' determination for swift justice was fueled further when they discovered that the man had sent taunting messages to the victim's mother's telephone bragging about his crime; and
WHEREAS, While the girl recovered from her injuries, the detectives worked around the clock to find the man, who had told associates that he was going to disappear, and they arrested him 72 hours later as he entered Union Station; and
WHEREAS, During the interrogation of the subject, the man compounded the great evil of his acts by claiming that the seven-year-old girl was the aggressor; and
