eT&HS < On October 25, 2014, the Alcott fifth- and sixth-grade crosscountry team won the Chicago Public Schools City Championship in the elementary division; and
 
WHEREAS, This feat is even more remarkable since Alcott has only been competing in cross-country for two years; and
 
WHEREAS, Alcott College Prep - East is a Chicago Public School with grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and is located at 2625 North Orchard Street; and
 
WHEREAS, Alcott's first championship was in 2013 when Alcott won the fifth- and sixth-grade girls soccer Chicago Public Schools City Championship; and
 
WHEREAS, The Alcott girls were led by sixth-grader Marley Kravitz, who ran the one-mile race in six minutes and thirty-three seconds; and
 
WHEREAS, Marley Kravitz finished in twelfth place overall and earned All City Honors; and
 
WHEREAS, Alcott's cross-country team beat a field of 20 teams and a total of 146 runners to take the championship held in Washington Park on October 25; and
 
WHEREAS, All seven Alcott runners set new personal records and four of the girls posted times under seven minutes; and
 
 
WHEREAS, Alcott's girls won their CPS Network qualifying meet, beating out more than 20 teams, and later won their North Sectional Qualifying meet, beating 25 teams to reach the finals; and
 
WHEREAS, Alcott's championship came on the same day that local and state lawmakers announced that Alcott was the recipient of a $750,000 grant to help construct new playing fields, including a track, at the school; and
 
WHEREAS, All of Chicago is proud of the accomplishments of Alcott's girls cross-country team; now, therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this nineteenth day of November, 2014, do hereby congratulate the following members and coach of the fifth- and sixth-grade cross-country team from Alcott College Prep - East for winning the Chicago Public Schools City Championship in the elementary division; Gwen Geissler, Eliana Herrera, Shelby Jacobson, Marley Kravitz, Meredith Phelps, Taylor Pinalto, Cielo Roman, Tess Scrivner, Linnea Shu, Isabel Zhang and coach Keli Wildermuth; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to these individuals as a token of our gratitude and esteem.
