RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, We, in this city of immigrants, this city of neighborhoods, this most American of all cities, are particularly cognizant of the "American Dream"; and
 
WHEREAS, Though seemingly fixed and inviolable, the complex social fabric of our great metropolis could be easily torn asunder were it not for the guardians of the public welfare, indeed, the guardians of the American Dream; and
 
WHEREAS, Dedication to and fulfillment of the motto of the Chicago Police Department - "We Serve and Protect" - exacts a substantial physical and emotional toll not only on the officers who must daily cope with the stress and danger of being life's arbitrator for countless citizens, but also on their family members; and
 
WHEREAS, Through professionalism and sacrifice, the members of the Chicago Police Department have provided us with one of the safest cities in the United States of America, allowing each of us to pursue our own version of the "American Dream" in safety and confidence; and
 
WHEREAS, The words of Sir Winston Churchill, "never was so much owed to so few" were never so apropos; and
 
WHEREAS, Christine M. Hitney, Patrol Officer's Star #10753, began her illustrious career with the Chicago Police Department on November 7,1988, and first served as a police officer in the Englewood District; and
 
WHEREAS, Christine M. Hitney later served in the Mass Transit Tactical Unit, Patrol Division, Detective Division, Organized Crime Unit and as an Asset Forfeiture Investigator; and
 
WHEREAS, Christine M. Hitney was promoted to Sergeant in 2006, and assumed Star #1227, which was once worn by her father, retired Sergeant Leo Roberts; and
 
WHEREAS, Christine M. Hitney was assigned to the 9th Police Distroct where she supervised beat officers until her retirement on June 15, 2014; and
 
WHEREAS, During her long and highly distinguished career, Christine M. Hitney earned two department commendations, 43 honorable mentions, seven physical fitness awards, three appearance awards, five complimentary letters, the
 
 
1996 National Democratic Convention Award and the 2012 NATO Summit Award; and
 
WHEREAS, Christine M. Hitney devoted twenty-six years of his life in service to the people of the City of Chicago and in doing so has personally ensured that the City of Chicago is the safe, healthy and vibrant community it is today; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled this nineteenth day of November, 2014, do hereby express our gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to Christine M. Hitney on the occasion of her retirement for her dedication, professionalism and personal sacrifice that she provided during her twenty-six years of public service; and
