WHEREAS, Pilsen Neighbors Community Council also known as PNCC was established in 1954 PNCC to fight against discrimination, unfair politics, and for quality of life; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City council has been informed of this by 18th Ward Alderman Lona Lane; and
WHEREAS, Pilsen Neighbors are important in the transformation of their community. PNCC's mission is to work to establish policies and practices around the needs of their neighborhood by working with community leaders on local, state and federal issues. PNCC invests in the development of new leaders through leadership training in an effort to bring about civic engagement and action that leads to the transformations of their communities; and
WHEREAS, PNCC has worked tirelessly on the issues of economic development, education funding, immigration reform, universal healthcare, older adult social well-being and workforce development. The organization has been historically instrumental in organizing parents to upgrade existing school buildings as well as building new schools to end overcrowding. PNCC currently leads parent leadership trainings in Pilsen and the Midway area and is now organizing the 8th Annual Education Summit and its organizing work in Early Childhood Education is thriving ; and
WHEREAS, This year Pilsen Neighbors Community Council's Board and community leaders are proud to celebrate the 60th Anniversary and have committed to continue to empower peoples' lives through community organizing. Part of that commitment is to continue organizing Fiesta del Sol each year with its strong leadership and without any help from outside consulting firms. As a self- sufficient organization, Fiesta del Sol is PNCC's primary fundraising opportunity to underwrite their community organizing and education programming throughout the year. The programs they offer year round include: scholarships, internships, tutoring and mentoring, leadership development, and community organizing; and
WHEREAS, PNCC is part of an international organization, the Gamaliel Network, a grassroots network of non-partisan, faith based organizations in seventeen US States, South Africa and the United Kingdom that organizes to empower people to effectively participate in the political, environment, social and economic decisions affecting their lives; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this nineteenth day of November, 2014 A.D do hereby extend greetings and best wishes to PNCC on their 60th year Anniversary celebration.
