BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
 
SECTION 1. Chapter 13-32 ofthe Municipal Code of the City of Chicago is hereby amended by adding a new Section 13-32-320, as follows:
13-32-220     Standardized plans for residential installation of solar photovoltaic panels.
The Commissioner of Buildings shall prepare standardized plans for the proper installation of roof-mounted solar photovoltaic panels, of appropriate size, weight and capacity, on residential buildings of no more than six units, and shall make the standardized plans available to any person requesting them, without charge, all as provided in this section.
In preparing the standardized plans, the Commissioner shall give consideration to the most common types of roofing materials, roof support and roof slope that comply with the building provisions of this code, as well as to the various weights, sizes and electrical capacity of available solar photovoltaic panels. Each standardized plan shall bear an indication of approval by the Department of Buildings.
 
A property owner or licensed contractor may obtain a copy of the appropriate standardized plan by submitting to the Department of Buildings a written, completed request, in a form prepared by the Commissioner. The form must provide for all ofthe following: the address ofthe building; a description of the roofing materials, roof support and roof slope of the building; the proposed location of each solar photovoltaic panel; and such other information as the Commissioner considers appropriate. If the described roof matches a standardized plan, the Commissioner shall provide a copy of the appropriate standardized plan, free of charge. The completed request and the matching, approved standardized plan shall be considered the application for an installation permit.
