WHEREAS, David Fagus was a community leader in the 49th Ward for four decades, serving in many leadership roles, most prominently that of Democratic Committeeman; and
WHEREAS, David Fagus was a true practitioner of the "big tent" theory of political involvement by building bridges across disagreements, including the ideas of many, and fighting for solutions to the common challenges faced by the community; and

WHEREAS, David Fagus most recently shared his talents in health care and finance to begin the process with Governor Pat Quinn to build the Illinois Health Information Exchange; and
WHEREAS, David Fagus first became Democratic Committeeman of the 49th Ward in 1993, joining forces with Alderman Joe Moore and bridging the divide between "Regular" and "Independent" Democrats; and
WHEREAS, David Fagus worked tirelessly to build a ward organization responsive to its members, giving them the power to endorse candidates, rather than hold that power exclusively among party leadership; and
WHEREAS, David Fagus not only empowered others but led others when appropriate, having been the first north side committeeman to endorse then-State Senator Barack Obama in his bid for United States Senate; and
WHEREAS, David Fagus recruited, empowered and led hundreds of volunteers in electing great Democratic candidates, most notably mobilizing the tsunami of campaign workers from Chicago who helped deliver Barack Obama the presidential nomination and election in 2008, and

WHEREAS, David Fagus's passions also included riding his motorcycle, following his beloved Chicago Cubs, and finding the best place to get good pizza and a hot dog in any neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, David Fagus was a cherished friend, neighbor and counsel to many, and is survived by his beloved mother, brother, niece and nephew; and
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-first of January 2015 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Committeeman David Fagus and extend to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
