  1. Chicago Public Schools' latest.and greatest success stories, Uplift Community f •High.School, oh the occasion.of its state championship in boys basketball; and
 
WHEREAS, Established in the' Uptown neighborhood in 2005, Uplift is a
college preparatory school that thrives on its strong connection: to its community
and strives to foster in its students a commitment to making a positive difference :
jn the world, taking to heart the words of Rosa Parks incorporated into the ;
colorful mosaic on the school's outside wall - "Each person must live their life as .
a model for others"; and      ; ::   '•'•"'
 
WHEREAS, On March 14, 201.5, the Uplift Titans completed ah outstanding; •28-5 season by winning the Class 2A boys basketball state championship; and .
 
.  WHEREAS, Uplift's road to the title included an undefeated firstrpla.ce finish in the Public League's Red-North. Conference arid a victory over perennial " . power Whitney Young in the third-place game of the league playoffs; anid; .
 
  WHEREAS, Striding confidently through the postseason, .the .Titans first-claimed the Guerin  Regional title  by overwhelming Chicago's Douglass Academy 94-52, then defeated Northridge 46-34 to win the Nbrthridge Sectional, and punched their ticket to Peoria by edging Chicago's Hales Franciscan 67-61 to capture the Joliet Super-Sectional; and
 
WHEREAS, Uplift turned in q spectacular performance in the state semifinal; easily dispatching a tough team from Breese's Mater Dei High by. a score of 72-
  1. 50, thereby earning a date with Decatur's St. Teresa High Bulldogs in the
championship game; and      .      •; ; -
 
 
WHEREAS, The final was a nerve-wracking affair, with the Bulldogs taking advantage of the Titans' initially shaky shooting to take a 25-21 lead into halftime, and Uplift muscling their way back to lead 34-33 after three quarters; and
 
WHEREAS, In the final eight minutes, after momentarily falling behind 35-34, the Titans found their form and took control of the game, making six of their last eleven shots, including two big three pointers, and going five of seven from the free-throw line; and >
 
■       WHEREAS,   Uplift's  53-47  victory  represents  the  school's  first, state championship in any sport, as well as the first time since-trie'Illinois High School Association introduced the four-class system that a team representing Chicago. . Public Schools has brought home the Class 2A title; now, therefore,
 
- BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this fifteenth day of April, 2015, do hereby, congratulate the 2014-15 Uplift Community High School boys basketball team: players Romel Askew, Alonzo Cattouse, Danzel Davies, Toraze Dobbs, Deshon Fluckes,. Spencer Foley, Jamal Hanson, Demarius Jacobs, Arnan Liridsey, Mecca Owens, Nate Ratliff, Jeremy Roscoe, Daniel Soetan, Sean Terell, Roderick Trice, and Jamaya Wyaft; Head Coach David A. Taylor; Assistant Coaches Quinci Jones and Deric Sylvester; Managers Julian Morris and Charlemagne. Desir; Athletic Director Antwoine Allen; and Uplift Principal Stephanie Y. Moore; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to each of the aforementioned individuals. as a token of . our appreciation and esteem. .
