intricate and intellectually demanding contest, requiring patience, strategic
planning, the ability to anticipate and calculate possibilities, and the ability to
adapt one's plans; and      . ' ;
 
WHEREAS, Founded eleven years ago by David and .Sheila Heiser, the. Renaissance Knights Chess Foundation is a nonprofit educational organization -dedicated to bringing the educational benefits,of chess to -children and young people throughout schools in the Chicago area by providing q complete chess, curriculum, enrichment programs, tournaments and events; and :v:
 
WHEREAS, The Foundation has worked closely wjth the Chicago Public Schools system tp expand competitive chess programs throughout CPS. Thpse. programs now. serve over 100 schools, teaching more than 1,500 students the skills of this challenging game, with the significant dividends of self-esteem derived from success in competition, patience and self-confidence achieved through training and practice, and scholastic achievements from applying the discipline learned; and
 
WHEREAS, Budding Grand Masters of Chess convened on February 7 of this year at the 6th Annual. Greater Chicago K-12 Championships at MeCormjck Place to compete; and
 
WHEREAS, Organized by the Renaissance Knights Chess Foundation, this year's tourney boasted a record attendance of 327 players; and
 
WHEREAS, Thanks to the generous sponsorship of SBB Research Group, Renaissance Knights was able to provide free entry to the competition and a one-year membership to the U.S. Chess Federation for 180 Chicago students; and
 
 
WHEREAS, Showing grit, intelligence, and mental toughness, the following ■ Chicago students and school teams won first place: Deniz Gulecyuz, a 7th grader "at Morgan Park Academy, K-12 Varsity section; Dexter Dale Jr, a 12th grader at Leo Catholic High School, K.-12 Junior Varsity section; Georgia Wolf, ah 8th grader at Taft High School, K-9 Varsity section; Andrew Li, a . 7th grader at Coonley Elementary School, K-9 Junior Varsity section; Daniel Zhang, q 5th grader at South Loop Elementary School, K-6 Varsity section; Steven Evangelou, a 5th grader at Decatur Classical School, K-6 Junior Varsity section; Shridha Mehendale, a 2nd grader at Skinner West Elementary School, K-3 Varsity section; Nathan. Car.opreso, a 3rd grader at Wildwood Elementary School; K-3 Junior Varsity section; Payton College Prep chess team, K-12 Varsity section; Senh High School chess team, K-12 Junior Varsity section; Bateman Elementary School chess teams, K-9 Junior Varsity, K-6 Varsity, K-6 Junior Varsjty and K-3 Varsity sections;. Gallistel Language Academy, K-3 Junior Varsity section; and .
 
WHEREAS, The City Council has been advised of this marvelous accomplishment by Alderman Proco "Joe" Moreno of the V' Ward; and ■
 
WHEREAS, All of Chicago salutes our winning students and chess teams on their sterling accomplishments; now, therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the. City of Chicago, assembled this 15th day of April; 2015, do hereby congratulate and recognize as Chicago Chess Champions Deniz. Guiecyuz, Dexter Dale Jr, Georgia. Wolf, Andrew Li, Daniel Zhang, .Steven Evangelou, Shrjdha Mehendale, Nathan Caropreso, and all the participants in the. chess programs at Payton College Prep, Senn High School, Bateman Elementary School and Gallistel Language Academy for their outstanding achievements, and also salute the Renaissance Knights Chess Foundation for their invaluable contribution to our City's youth; and
 
 
 
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this Resolution be
presented, to the above-named students and schools, dnd to the Renaissance
