RESOLUTION
WHEREAS. God in His Infinite Wisdom called Bertha Rene McMillon Holmes, most beloved grandmother to Alderman Natashia L. Homes, to her eternal reward on Tuesday, April 28, 2015: and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of Bertha Rene McMillon Holmes' death by the Honorable Natashia L. Holmes, Alderman of the 7m Ward; and
WHEREAS, Bertha Rene McMillon Holmes, the oldest daughter of nine siblings, was born on May 16, 1925 to the Rev. Horace and Addie McMillon in Hopkins, Florida She received her formal education from Melbourne Vocational Elementary and High School and graduated in the class of 1944; and
WHEREAS, Bertha accepted Christ at an early age at Moriah Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized by the Rev. John W. Driskell in 1935. She later became a member of Greater Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church and for over 39 years was actively involved in many of the church's ministries; and
WHEREAS, Bertha was joined in holy matrimony to Amos James Holmes on December 23, 1944. From this union four children were born: Ronald Lenord, Rondalyn Marie, Kenneth Eugene and Cecili Lorene; and
WHEREAS, Bertha retired from the Florida Department of Agriculture Extension Food Service and was employed at Patrick Air Force Base for many years; and
WHEREAS, Bertha is survived by many family members and although she will be dearly missed by all who knew her, she leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and a gentle reminder to always be kind; now, therefore
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled this sixth day of May 2015, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Bertha Rene McMillon Holmes and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy.
