Resolution Honoring Father John Cassidy

WHEREAS, it is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned ofthe death of Father John Cassidy; and

WHEREAS, born in Chicago, Illinois, Father Cassidy attended St. Agnes School in Chicago Heights, and graduated Quigley Preparatory Seminary and from the University of St. Mary ofthe Lake/Mundelein Cemetery, served as a chaplain in the Illinois National guard with a rank of First Lieutenant, and received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from St. Mary ofthe Lake; and

WHEREAS, he admired the passion and dedication of both of his late brothers, Frank and Jim, and followed in the footsteps of Father Frank, also a priest, and became ordained on April 12,1958; and

WHEREAS, his first assignment was at St. Raphael Parish in Chicago where he served as assistant pastor from 1958 to 1966, and served as assistant pastor at Our Lady of the Snows in Chicago from 1966 and 1968, and St. Thaddeus Parish form 1973 to 1985 He was then named Associate Pastor of St. Margaret of Scotland from 1985 to 1987 and St. Daniel the Prophet Parish from 1987 to 2003. In 2003, Father Cassidy returned to St. Ambrose where he was named Pastor Emeritus; and

WHEREAS, he served the St. Daniel the Prophet Parish selflessly for 23 years, visiting shut-in parishioners in their homes, hospitals and nursing homes, bringing comfort and care to those in need, offering prayers and support to those sick and in need; and

WHEREAS, in the twilight of his life, he moved to St. Benedict Nursing Home in Niles where he lived until his passing; his compassion and caring returned as he was taken care of and made comfortable by his beloved parishioners and community; and

WHEREAS, in commemoration of his life, the community has come together to memorialize the death of a man who so humbly served others and God by naming the street in front of St. Daniel the Prophet Parish, the 3500 block of North Natoma, in his name; now, therefore
