RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Joseph R. Kozenczak has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 75; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A native of Chicago's Humboldt Park community, Joseph R. Kozenczak was a widely admired member of the law enforcement community and the loving husband of Karen; and

WHEREAS, Joseph R. Kozenczak ably served for 27 years with the City of Des Plaines Police Department and will be remembered for his outstanding police work and devotion to duty; and

WHEREAS, Joseph R. Kozenczak rose through the ranks of the police department to become Chief of Detectives, Captain and eventually Chief of Police; and

WHEREAS, Joseph R. Kozenczak served as the Chief Investigator of the John Wayne Gacy Serial Murder Investigation and was recognized for his work by the International Association of Chiefs of Police for his work on the case; and

WHEREAS, A book co-authored by Joseph R. Kozenczak with his wife, The Chicago Killer, as well as a subsequent television mini-series, To Catch a Killer, were based on the Gacy investigation; and

WHEREAS, Joseph R. Kozenczak frequently lectured nationally and internationally on investigative procedures; and

WHEREAS, During the late ¦ 1950s, Joseph R. Kozenczak honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army Military Police Corps in Korea and in Arizona; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Joseph R. Kozenczak serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, Joseph R. Kozenczak will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Joseph R. Kozenczak imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
