RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Corporal Sara A. Medina has gone to her eternal reward at the age of 23; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A resident of Aurora, Corporal Sara A. Medina was among United States Marines killed in a tragic helicopter crash while participating in a relief mission to assist the people of earth quake-stricken Nepal; and

 

WHEREAS, The UH-1 "Huey" helicopter was lost in a mountainous region east of Nepal's capital of Kathmandu while delivering rice and tarps to earthquake victims; and

 

WHEREAS, Corporal Sara A. Medina served as a United States Army combat photographer and was stationed with the Marine Corps Installations Pacific command based in Okinawa, Japan; and

 

WHEREAS, Prior to her deployment to Nepal, Corporal Sara A. Medina had served in South Korea, the Philippines, Japan, Australia and the United States; and

 

WHEREAS, A native of Durango, Mexico, Corporal Sara A. Medina enlisted in the Army in 2010 after graduating from East Aurora High School; and

 

WHEREAS, Corporal Sara A. Medina was a recipient of the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal and the Korean Defense Service Medal; and

 

WHEREAS, The courage, sacrifice and dedication of Corporal Sara A. Medina serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Corporal Sara A. Medina to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, Corporal Sara A. Medina will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

 

WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Corporal Sara A. Medina imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of May, 2015, do hereby commemorate Corporal Sara A. Medina for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Corporal Sara A. Medma.
