RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Ty Wansley has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 63; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Ty Wansley was a legendary Chicago radio personality, news anchor and talk show host who enjoyed a broadcast career that spanned 35 years; and

WHEREAS, Ty Wansley was raised in St. Louis, Missouri where he studied at Jefferson Community College and began working in radio; and

WHEREAS, Ty Wansley first came to Chicago to work as the National News Director for the Sheridan Network and later became National News Director of Amaturo Broadcasting; and

WHEREAS, Over the course of his long and illustrious career, Ty Wansley demonstrated a deep passion for the medium of radio and interviewed community leaders, mayors, governors, presidents and jazz musicians; and

WHEREAS, Reaching beyond his role in urban radio, Ty Wansley teamed up with former Alderman Edward R. Vrdolyak in 1993 for a highly popular talk show on WLS-AM 890 radio; and

WHEREAS, Ty Wansley most recently served as news and information director for three iHeart stations, anchored morning news on VI03 and WGRB and hosted two public affairs shows; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Ty Wansley serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love, of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Ty Wansley to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, Ty Wansley was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his two brothers, Larry and Danny, Ty Wansley imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of May, 2015, do hereby commemorat...
