RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The City of Chicago and the members of its esteemed diplomatic community are privileged to bid a fond farewell to Jelena Polic who has served with distinction as the Consul General of the Republic of Croatia in Chicago since 2011; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this auspicious event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, In the course of her assignment in Chicago, Jelena Polic focused on strengthening Croatia's economic, trade and investment links within the Consul General's jurisdiction of Illinois, Indiana, Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, A career diplomat, Jelena Polic joined the staff of the Croatian Embassy in Washington, D.C., in 1993 as a Congressional Counselor and then headed the Political Office; and
WHEREAS, From 1988 to 2001, Jelena Polic worked as Croatia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York; and
WHEREAS, During the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Jelena Polic headed the North American Department in Zagreb and was promoted to Acting Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs in Europe, North America, Russia and Israel; and
WHEREAS, A career diplomat, Jelena Polic spearheaded Croatia's NATO accession efforts as Assistant Minister of Defense from 2003 to 2005 and then was assigned to Beijing as Deputy Chief of Mission from 2006 to 2010; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Jelena Polic serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Jelena Polic is a widely recognized member of the diplomatic community who is richly deserving of our admiration and respect; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of May, 2015, do hereby extend our most sincere gratitude to Jelena Polic for her tireless service as the Consul General of the Republic of Croatia in Chicago and do hereby express our best wishes for her continued success and...
