RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Walgreens, Mars and NBC are sponsoring the nation's inaugural Red Nose Day campaign in America to raise funds for children in poverty; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Organized by Comic Relief, Red Nose Day has been celebrated in the United Kingdom for more than 25 years; and
WHEREAS, Red Nose Day encourages people to don red noses and have a good laugh for a good cause while raising money to benefit the needy; and
WHEREAS, Numerous elected officials in the United Kingdom have taken part in this campaign, including Prime Ministers Gordon Brown, Tony Blair and David Cameron, as well as an impressive list of celebrity participants; and
WHEREAS, From April 17 through May 30, Walgreens and Duane Reade locations nationwide will sell red noses for $1 each, with proceeds contributed to the needy; and
WHEREAS, Funds raised will benefit non-profit organizations that work to lift children and young people out of poverty in the United States and overseas; and
WHEREAS, The pre-selected charity partners for Red Nose Day include the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the Children's Health Fund, Feeding America, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the Global Fund, LIFT, the National Council of La Raza, the National Urban League, Oxfam America, Save the Children and the United Way; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City
Council, assembled this twentieth day of May, 2015, do hereby officially
declare that May 21, 20yf5\ shall be officially recognized as Red Nose Day
throughout the City ofyChiaago. / J
