RESOLUTION HONORING NADIG NEWS 75th ANNIVERASRY

WHEREAS, on May 1, 2015, the Nadig News celebrates 75 years of publication; and
WHEREAS, this august body has been made aware of this event by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and

WHEREAS, on May 1, 1940, the first issue of Nadig News was published, addressing a need for local, reliable neighborhood news on Chicago's Northwest Side that fulfilled the issues and concerns unique to the community; and
WHEREAS, since 1973, reporter Russ Stewart has authored a popular weekly political column analyzing Chicago and Illinois politics. The political climate ofthe northwest side, ever changing and always interesting, has seen many different leaders of the 38th, 39th, 41st, and 45th Wards since 1940; and

WHEREAS, these aldermen include Aldermen Patrick J. Cullerton, William J. Cullerton, Thomas W. Cullerton, Thomas R. Allen, Timothy M. Cullerton, and Nicholas Sposato of the 38th Ward, Aldermen Hyman L. Brody, Ray N. Jacobs, George L. Buckley, Philip A. Shapiro, Anthony C. Laurino, and Margaret Laurino ofthe 39th Ward, Aldermen William J Cowhey, Joseph P. Immel, Jr., Harry Bell, Edward T. Scholl, Roman C. Pucinski, Brian G. Doherty, Mary O'Connor, Anthony V. Napolitano of the 41st Ward, Aldermen Edwin F. Meyer, Theron W. Merryman, Charles J. Fleck, Charles H. Weber, Edwin P. Fifelski, Richard S. Clewis, Gerald M. McLaughlin, Patrick J. Levar, and John Arena ofthe 45th Ward; and

WHEREAS, committed to connecting the community with businesses through local advertising, as well as giving back locally to community organizations, the Nadig family has been dedicated to not only the advancement of their publication, but the advancement of a community, as well; and

WHEREAS, although Chicago in 1940 looked much different than present-day, the Nadig News has adapted and responded to their readership and remained a relevant, important publication for 75 years; now, therefore,
