RESOLUTION HONORING DR. FRANK DEREK BARNES
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor those distinguished individuals whose life's work and civic endeavor serves to enhance the quality of life in their communities. Attendant to such concerns, and in full accord with its long standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Frank Derek Barnes; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Barnes, an educator, researcher and organizer is noted for his exceptional work on behalf of many children and their families. A native of Chicago's great South-Side Community, neighborhood, received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Speech & Communications from Macalister College, two Masters Degrees in Teaching and Curriculum and Education Policy and Management from Harvard University and recently earned a Doctorate Degree from Harvard University's Graduate School of Education; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Derek Barnes has been an exemplar Chief Accountability Officer of the Charlotte-Mecklenburgh School, a former Board Prize for Urban Education winner and the 17th largest school district in the United States; Senior Associate at the Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University, Lecturer at over 20 colleges and universities, member on an Education Testing Service national advisory group, Author of the technical assistance guide, Inquiry and Action, writer of multiple articles and reports on school improvement, served as a board member, volunteer, and community advocate, developer and overseer of a non-partisan voter-education, voter-registration, and voter-turnout initiative program, and the recipient of the Rhode Island Secretary of State's Medallion Award for exemplary civic contributions, is well deserving of the reorganization given him. Dr. Frank Derek Barnes is a selfless, caring citizen; and
