RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Robert C. Buckley, Jr. is retiring after a 30 year career in public service, through which he served the public with distinction, both as a lawyer and as a coordinator and policy analyst with Intergovernmental Affairs for the Chicago Police Department; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of this occasion by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Buckley is an alumnus of Eastern Illinois University, where he majored in finance, served as student body president, and became a champion Illinois Collegiate Powerlifter. He was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1995 after earning his J.D. from DePaul University; and
WHEREAS, Robert had a 13 year tenure with the State's Attorney's Office, wherein he assisted in the handling of over 200 criminal bench trials and over 35 felony jury trials. His career as a State's Attorney included supervisory roles with the Public Interest Bureau's Environmental Division as well as with the Felony Review Unit. In the last few years of his time with the State's Attorney, he concurrently served at Northwestern University as an Adjunct Professor of Law, Advanced Trial Advocacy; and
WHEREAS, Robert accepted a position with the Mayor's office, where he served for a year and a half as a liaison between the Administration and the Police Department, advising city officials and legislators on everything from narcotics trafficking and street gangs to victims' rights; and
WHEREAS, The liaison position was a natural starting point for what became Mr. Buckley's 15+ year career as the Coordinator of Intergovernmental Affairs for the Chicago Police Department, where he led policy analysis as well as utilized his legal expertise; and
WHEREAS, Robert has garnered a complimentary history including fourteen awards of which he and all Chicagoans can be proud, including the 2009 Crime Reduction Award, the 2004 Crime Reduction Ribbon, nine complimentary letters, the Joint Operations Award, and award...
