RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, in His infinite wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal peace to Gussie L. Southern, an outstanding citizen and member of her community; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Susan Sadlowski Garza, Alderman of the 10th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born in Louisville, Mississippi as the fourth of six children, she accepted Christ at an early age and went on to be baptized at the Indiana Avenue Pentecostal Church of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Southern was married to Bishop Cornelius Southern, pastor and Founder of the First Lady of Grace Apostolic Church for over 47 years; and
WHEREAS, her family has carried their legacy in the church across generations, and their son District Elder Maurice Southern now serves as pastor; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Southern was a devoted Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher, Prayer Band Leader, Courtesy Car Driver and the Chairperson of the Women's Department; and
WHEREAS, Gussie L. Southern was a highly sought after speaker, teacher and member and traveled throughout the United States conducting seminars, evangelizing and inspiring many; and
WHEREAS, she leaves behind a legacy of compassion, faith, and character, and although she will be missed, her memory will carry on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this twenty-fourth day of September, 2015, do hereby honor the life of Gussie Southern and express to her family our deepest condolences.
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy be presented to the family of Gussie Southern.
