SUBSTITUTE ORDINANCE

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:

SECTION 1. Section 13-160-310 ofthe Municipal Code of Chicago are hereby amended by inserting the language underscored as follows:



13-160-310 Stairways - Landings.

Proco Joe Moreno Alderman, 1st Ward
The maximum vertical rise of a flight between floors, between landings or between a floor and a landing shall not exceed nine feet in assembly units nor 12 feet in all other occupancies or 10 feet for exterior stairs to a front door of anv dwelling.
The length of a landing in the direction of travel shall be not less than the width of the stairs, but need not exceed four feet in a stair of any width.
Except in single-family and two-family dwellings, no flight shall have less than two risers. (Prior code ยง67-10.2)
Summary of changes made in substitute ordinance
l. Adds a provision that includes 10 feet for exterior stairs to a front door of any dwelling to the maximum vertical rise of a flight between floors.
