RESOLUTION HONORING DUTCHIE CAREY


WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that the members of the Chicago City Council are hereby informed of the honorary street naming ceremony for Dutchie Caray; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been notified of Dutchie Caray's well-deserved honor by Alderman Brian Hopkins of the 2nd Ward; and
WHEREAS, Dolores ("Dutchie") Goldmann was born on August 22, 1929' and had been married twice prior to marrying Harry Caray in 1975 and their loving, wonderful marriage continued until Harry Caray's death in 1998; and
WHEREAS, in 1992 the Caray's purchased and moved into a condominium in Water Tower Place; and
WHEREAS, Dutchie Caray played such a central role in Harry Caray's success as an announcer and restaurateur in Chicago that she is commonly referred to as "The First Lady of Chicago Baseball"; and
WHEREAS, after Harry Caray's death Dutchie Caray became very involved in the restaurant business and was instrumental in growing the business from one restaurant to seven restaurants, the newest being at Water Tower Place, and establishing a successful catering business; and
WHEREAS, Dutchie Caray is an incredible caring mother of 5, stepmother of 5, grandmother of 4 and step-grandmother of 12; and
WHEREAS, Dutchie Caray regularly attends mass at Holy Name Cathedral and bakes cupcakes for those in need at a nearby shelter; and
WHEREAS, naming Pearson Street between Michigan Avenue and Mies Van der Rohe Way "Honorary Dutchie Caray Way" is a fitting tribute to Dutchie Caray; and now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this twenty-fourth day of September, 2015, do hereby express our gratitude to Dutchie Caray and express our heartfelt wish for her continued success and find it a fitting tribute to her enormous contributions in the City of Chicago; and
