RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Beatrice Mensah Tayui has applied to become Honorary Consul General in Chicago for Ghana; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, An individual of extraordinary intelligence and strong character, Beatrice Mensah Tayui is the founder of several small businesses in the United States and in Africa; and
WHEREAS, Beatrice Mensah Tayui would use her role as Honorary Consul General to facilitate and enhance both business cooperation and trade opportunities between the United States and Ghana; and
WHEREAS, An investment strategist with a focus on oil and gas in Sub Saharan Africa, Beatrice Mensah Tayui is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Cybele Energy Global, Inc., and the first Ghanaian woman to own and operate an Oil Block in Africa; and
WHEREAS, Beatrice Mensah Tayui is also the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of LOCAM, a joint venture with Caterpillar, Inc. which seeks to meet the huge market gap in heavy equipment and leasing in Cameroon; and
WHEREAS, A highly respected civic leader, Beatrice Mensah Tayui is actively involved with community service and not-for-profit organizations; and
WHEREAS, Beatrice Mensah Tayui is a longtime supporter of Jack and Jill of America, a leadership development group, and the Black Creativity Organization which provides mentoring and scholarship programs in underprivileged communities in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Beatrice Mensah Tayui serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-fourth day of September 2015, do
hereby urge the Ghana Embassy in Washington, D.C. to appoint Beatrice Mensah Tayui to serve as Honorary Consul General in Chicago for Ghana; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Lieutenant General J.H. Smith of the Ghana Embassy.
