RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Bill Stanley has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 58; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A resident of the Hyde Park community, Bill Stanley was a leading scientist at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, Bill Stanley took annual trips to East Africa, especially Tanzania, where he earned an internationally renowned reputation for his research and the discovery of previously unknown species of small mammals; and

 

WHEREAS, A graduate of Humboldt State University in Areata, California, Bill Stanley joined the Field Museum in 1989; and

 

WHEREAS, Bill Stanley served as the Field Museum's Director of Collections where he oversaw a vast collection of more than 25 million species; and

 

WHEREAS, During his highly successful career, Bill Stanley focused on areas including natural history, biogeography, taxonomy and the evolution of mammals; and

 

WHEREAS, An invaluable asset to the museum, Bill Stanley was known for his enthusiasm and warmth; and

 

WHEREAS, Bill Stanley published countless research papers and strived to improve historical accuracy in the scientific community; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Bill Stanley serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Bill Stanley to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, Bill Stanley was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

 

WHEREAS, To his longtime domestic partner, Mary Anne Rogers, and his beloved family, Bill Stanley imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fourteenth day of October 2015, do hereby commemorate Bill Stanley for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bill Stanley.
