MEMORIAL RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, The members of this Chamber were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs. Claudia Mae Wilkerson, an outstanding citizen ofthe Austin community in Chicago. Claudia Wilkerson finished her race as a strong Christian and woman of faith and has received her crown of righteousness; and

 

WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and

 

WHEREAS, Claudia Wilkerson was born to the union of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew and Millie Avery in Brent, Alabama on April 6, 1912. She married Jerry Wilkerson Sr. in 1929 and they relocated to Chicago in 1965. Claudia Wilkerson was the proud mother of 9 children: J.C., U.L., Willie, Jerry Jr., Nathaniel, BrookerT, James, Robert and Clara; and

 

WHEREAS, Claudia Wilkerson was a devout Grandmother of forty-five children, a Great-Grandmother of eighty three, and a Great-Great Grandmother of fifty;

 

WHEREAS, Claudia Wilkerson was a member of Helping Hand Baptist Church and a faithful woman of God, who taught her family adherence to God's word in all things. She was a pleasant and kind woman who enjoyed cooking, loved flowers, Gospel music and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and

 

WHEREAS, Claudia Wilkerson's earthly journey ended on October 11, 2015. She is an angel who will be truly missed. Her heart was so big it had room for everyone she crossed paths with. Her love is instilled in the hearts of many and her memory will live forever; now, therefore

 

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-first day of October, 2015 do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Claudia Mae Wilkerson and express to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and

 

Be It Further Resolved, that suitable copies ofthis resolution are presented to the family of Claudia Wilkerson as a sign of our sympathy and good wishes.
