RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Roland Charles Baker has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Roland Charles Baker was the loving husband of Helen; and

 

WHEREAS, Roland Charles Baker was the much-adored father of Scott, Stephen and Stefanie and the stepfather of Dustin and Colleen to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, Raised in California, Roland Charles Baker graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles and earned his master's degree in business administration from the University of Southern California; and

 

WHEREAS, Roland Charles Baker approached his life with great passion and purpose and enjoyed a long and highly successful career in the industry; and

 

WHEREAS, Roland Charles Baker retired as the Chief Executive Officer of First Penn Pacific Life Insurance Company; and

 

WHEREAS, Prior to moving to Hilton Head, South Carolina, Roland Charles Baker and his wife lived for many years in the Hyde Park community; and

 

WHEREAS, Roland Charles Baker was a longtime member of Beverly Country Club where he spent many happy days on the golf course in the company of good friends; and

 

WHEREAS, An admirer of the arts, Roland Charles Baker loved to listen to blues and jazz music and served on the board of the Court Theater at the University of Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Roland Charles Baker serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Roland Charles Baker to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, Roland Charles Baker was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Roland Charles Baker imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-first day of October 2015, do hereby commemorate Roland Charles Bakerfor his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
