RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Sybil Stockdale has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 90; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Sybil Stockdale was a Navy wife who fought to end the torture of American prisoners of war during the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, Sybil Stockdale was the wife of a Navy pilot who was taken prisoner after his plane was shot down over Vietnam in 1965; and
WHEREAS, Sybil Stockdale organized military wives to urge that the United States government pressure North Vietnam to follow the Geneva Convention; and
WHEREAS, Sybil Stockdale helped to found the League of American Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia; and
WHEREAS, Sybil Stockdale actions helped to win the release of her husband, then a commander, and other prisoners in 1973; and
WHEREAS, Sybil Stockdale's husband, the late James Bond, rose through the ranks to become a Vice Admiral; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Sybil Stockdale serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Sybil Stockdale will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her three sons, Jim, Sid and Taylor, Sybil Stockdale imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-first day of October 2015, do hereby commemorate Sybil Stockdale for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
