TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF CARRIE LOUISE FILER DAVIS
WHEREAS, Carrie Louise Filer was born to the union of Squire and Vera Filer. The eldest of three girls and one boy, Carrie enjoyed a very loving and happy childhood and began her public speaking career at the age of five. She excelled academically at Robert Moten Elementary and High Schools where she was Valedictorian of her class. In addition, Carrie attended Arkansas AM&N .in Pine Bluff where she graduated cum laude; Northeastern University where she received her Master of Arts Degree: and The University of Sarasota where she earned her Doctoral Degree; and
WHEREAS, After finishing school. Dr. Davis worked in various professions: she was a schoolteacher, counselor, co-director at a modeling/talent agency, coordinator of Human Relations, and administrator over 29 school districts ofthe Chicago Board of Education. Because of Carrie's love for public speaking, she was a private drama coach for students and adults wishing to prove their speaking skills. As a result of her involvement in designing courses in speech, drama, and music for teachers, the Chicago Board of Education awarded her Outstanding Drama Director and Teacher of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Davis was also a Legendary Soror and Leader of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Her public speaking passion was further realized through the Kaleidoscope of the Arts, a talent search involving Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority's high school Rhoers and college Sigma women competing for trophies in speech, drama, and dance. Carrie also originated the "Mother-Daughter Gallery" which spotlighted daughters who followed their mother's legacy into Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Davis attained achievements during her distinguished career; and
WHEREAS, Carrie's greatest source of love, joy and pride was her family. When her parents' home in Marianna, Arkansas burned down, Carrie was proud to build them a new home. She was the mother of four children - one boy and three ...
