Honorary Resolution

WHEREAS, Lillian Drummond, an enthusiastic, active and much loved resident of the Chicago's great 29th Ward, is hereby acknowledged for her selfless commitment to the South Austin Community; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of this recognition by the Honorable Christopher Taliaferro, Alderman of the 29th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Lillian, a member of South Austin Neighborhood Association, along with Mayor Richard Daley worked together to open a Department of Aging facility in the Austin community; and

WHEREAS, Lillian became a forceful advocate for the plights of seniors and low-income families providing financial aid for energy assistance; and

WHEREAS, in 1985, Lillian, with her dynamic personality and incredible vision, spearheaded passage of the Illinois Percentage of Income Payment plan and pursued again in 2009; and

WHEREAS, Lillian dedicated her energies to serving the needs of senior citizens and low-income families in the Austin Community by championing for state and federal dollars to provide and preserve the Energy Assistance program. In 2015, she was invited to speak before the Illinois Senate committee on Energy Assistance; and

WHEREAS, Lillian's accolades include: 1999 Jefferson Award for Public Service as the "Unsung Area Hero"; 2003 Chicago Senior Citizen Hall of Fame Award; 2006 Edward Bailey Lifetime Community Service Award; Illinois Senior Citizen Hall of Fame Award; and

WHEREAS, Always in tune with the needs of the community, Lillian, through her compassionate and caring nature, has made the 29th Ward a better place to live, work and play. Her dedication and civic spirit serves as an inspiration to us all; now, therefore

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this October 28, 2015, do hereby express our gratitude for the stewardship of Lillian Drummond in preserving the needs of her community, and

Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Lillian Drummond as a token of our appreciation for her service
