RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Kenneth Douglas "Ken" Taylor has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 81; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Kenneth Douglas "Ken" Taylor was a widely admired Canadian diplomat and the loving husband of Pat; and

 

WHEREAS, Kenneth Douglas "Ken" Taylor was the much-adored father of Douglas and the grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, Kenneth Douglas "Ken" Taylor was best known for his role in which he helped six Americans escape from Iran in 1979 during the Iran Hostage Crisis; and

 

WHEREAS, The six American diplomats successfully fled the American Embassy in Tehran when it was overrun by students and were secretly provided refuge by Kenneth Douglas "Ken" Taylor who served as Ambassador; and

 

WHEREAS, Kenneth Douglas "Ken" Taylor provided fake Canadian passports to the American diplomats who posed as a film crew and slipped out of Iran; and

 

WHEREAS, The covert mission was launched with the assistance of the Central Intelligence Agency and was dubbed operation "Canadian Caper"; and

 

WHEREAS, Following his return from Iran, Kenneth Douglas "Ken" Taylor was appointed Canadian Consul General to New York City and awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for valor by the United States; and

 

WHEREAS, Kenneth Douglas "Ken" Taylor Later served the University of Toronto as the Chancellor of Victoria College and as a business consultant; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Kenneth Douglas "Ken" Taylor serve as an example to all; and

 

 

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Kenneth Douglas "Ken" Taylor to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, Kenneth Douglas "Ken" Taylor was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Kenneth Douglas "Ken" Taylor imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-eighth day of October 2015, do hereby commemorate Kenneth Douglas "Ken" Taylor for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Kenneth Douglas "Kerr Taylor.
