RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Hubert Holton has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 92; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A longtime resident of the Avalon community on the South Side, Hubert Holton was a widely admired member of the law enforcement community and the loving husband for 68 years of the late Frances; and

WHEREAS, Hubert Holton was the much-adored father of Marcia, Betty and the late Hubert W., and the grandfather of five to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, A native of Louise, Mississippi, Hubert Holton was the son of a sharecropper; and

WHEREAS, A member of our "Greatest Generation", Hubert Holton bravely served his country in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 in North Africa and Europe and was awarded two Bronze Stars; and

WHEREAS, After his honorable discharge, Hubert Holton worked for the United States Postal Service before joining the Chicago Police Department in 1955; and

WHEREAS, Hubert Holton worked for 34 years with the Chicago Police Department and rose to become the Commander of the Area 2 Detective Division; and

WHEREAS, Following his retirement from the Police Department, Hubert Holton worked for the Chicago Housing Authority, the Chicago Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Corrections; and

WHEREAS, Hubert Holton read four newspapers every day and was an avid sports fan; and

WHEREAS, Hubert Holton's son, who wrote under the name "Hugh HoltOn", was a Chicago Police Captain and a crime novelist whose books sold more than one million copies; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Hubert Holton serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Hubert Holton to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; a...
