RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Jim Conway has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 94; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Jim Conway was a legendary Chicago broadcasting pioneer who worked in both radio and television; and

 

WHEREAS, Born in Chicago, Jim Conway was raised on the South Side and in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and

 

WHEREAS, Jim Conway attended Marquette University before leaving college to take a job with WBBM-AM Radio in Chicago where he reported on the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941; and

 

WHEREAS, During World War II, Jim Conway served as an aviator with the United States Navy; and

 

WHEREAS, After the war, Jim Conway resumed his job with WBBM Radio and went on to enjoy a 40-year career as a broadcaster, including stints at WMAQ Radio, WLS and WGN television; and

 

WHEREAS, An engaging interviewer, Jim Conway earned his loyal following as a host of several morning television programs; and

 

WHEREAS, Jim Conway lived for many years in Lake Forest where he raised his family with his first wife, the late Audrey; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Jim Conway serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Jim Conway to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, Jim Conway was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

 

WHEREAS, To his loving wife, Mary Jane, his three sons, James Jr., Michael and Clancy, his daughter, Victoria, his two sisters, Patricia and Eileen, his 12 grandchildren, his 16 great-grandchildren and his two great-great grandchildren, Jim Conway imparts a 'legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of February, 2016, do hereby commemorate Jim Conway for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
