RESOLUTION BARRflNG DIMTEL FROIM DOING BUSINESS

 

 

 

WHEREAS, the City of Chicago is a large municipal corporation that has substantial buying power and influences purchasing decisions of other entities and of individuals; and WHEREAS, there are some companies that are employing an insufficient number of African Americans and Hispanics denying people opportunities; and

WHEREAS, in 2015 the Intel Corporation acknowledged the need to increase the percentage of African Americans and Hispanics in its workforce and promised "full representation" by 2020; and

WHEREAS, in the last year the percentage of Hispanics employed by Intel decreased from 8.14% to 8.06%; and

WHEREAS, the percentage of African Americans in Intel's workforce remained unchanged at 3.34%; and

WHEREAS, this blatant failure to employ minorities is irresponsible behavior by Intel; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and Members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, assembled this sixteen day of March, 2016, do hereby call on the City of Chicago's Chief Procurement Officer to deem the Intel Corporation non-responsible on all bids or proposals it submits to the City, until the Intel Corporation is at full representation of minorities in its workforce. »
