Commander Daniel J. Godsel (Star #470) and Sergeant Jon P. Hein (Star #2663) of the Chicago Police Department heard a radio call announcing a burglary in progress in the 1600 block of West 38th Place; and

 

WHEREAS, Commander Godsel and Sergeant Hein realized that the address identified in the call was nearby; and

 

WHEREAS, Although responding to calls for service is not among their regular duties, Commander Godsel and Sergeant Hein are wholeheartedly committed to serving and protecting the people of the City of Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, Choosing to lead by example. Commander Godsel and Sergeant Hein lost no time in proceeding to the scene of the crime; and

 

WHEREAS, When they arrived. Commander Godsel and Sergeant Hein recognized pry marks on the open front door of the second floor apartment, and quickly but carefully entered the residence; and

 

WHEREAS, Commander Godsel and Sergeant Hein found two men ransacking the living room and immediately detained them without incident; and

 

WHEREAS, The Cook County State's Attorney's Office ultimately charged the offenders with felony burglary and felony possession of burglary tools; and

 

WHEREAS, The vigilance, resolve, and dedication of Commander Godsel and Sergeant Hein resulted in two criminals being apprehended and taken off the street; and

 

 

WHEREAS, Commander Godsel and Sergeant Hein deserve recognition for demonstrating their commitment to combating crime in the Peering District, as well as for setting a stellar example for their officers; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this sixteenth day of March, 2016, do hereby commend Commander Daniel J. Godsel and Sergeant Jon P. Hein of the Chicago Police Department for their professionalism, dedication, and stalwart efforts on behalf of the citizenry of Chicago; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Commander Godsel and Sergeant Hein, and placed on permanent record in each of their personnel files, as a token of our appreciation and esteem.
