1095) was off-duty and attending a family graduation party in Orland Park,
Illinois; and
                     •• V

 

; WHEREAS, the party was interrupted when d young guest ran up to Sergeant Guerra and said that her brother, who had gone down a slide into d swimming pool, was lying motionless at the pool's bottom, and that she was unable to raise him up to the surface; and

 

WHEREAS, Relying on her instincts, police training, and experience as a lifeguard, Sergeant Guerra dove Into the 12-fdot-deep pool fuliy clothed, and pulled the boy from the bottom; arid

 

WHEREAS, With the assistance of other guests, Sergeant Guerra was able to lift the boy's limp body onto the pool deck, where she realized he was not breathing and was in full cardiac arrest; and

 

WHEREAS, Again relying oh her instincts, training, and experience, Sergeant Guerra reacted immediately by .perfbrrhing CPR ori the boy; arid

 

WHEREAS, Despite what seemed to be a bleak situation, Sergedhf Guerra kept performirig CPR, and ultimdfely sdved the boy's life. Through her herbic efforts he had regained consciousness and was breathing on his own before the paramedics arrived; and j

 

WHEREAS, Sergeant Guerra is a. 22-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department who formerly worked in the Special Investigations Unit, and now works in the Office of News Affairs; and

 

WHEREAS, Thanks to her quick thinking and actions, Sergeant Guerra saved the boy's life, and he was released from the hospital a short time later with no lasting injuries; and
