RESOLUTION



WHEREAS, Breg Hughes served his country with valor and great distinction as an infantryman in the United States Army, then later as a member of the elite United States Army Special Forces, more commonly known as the Green Berets; and
WHEREAS, Breg Hughes served as a Special Forces commander through three combat deployments totaling thirty-one months; and
WHEREAS,, Breg Hughes served two combat deployments in Iraq and the other in Afghanistan as a Company Executive Officer and Detachment Commander in Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, Breg Hughes suffered injuries from a mortar attack during his first combat deployment to the Al Anbar Province, Iraq in January 2006; and
WHEREAS, Breg Hughes was awarded his first Purple Heart for injuries sustained in this action; and
WHEREAS, Breg Hughes returned to the United States in February 2007 before deployment to Sadr City, Baghdad, in April 2008; and
WHEREAS, Breg Hughes' final deployment was to Afghanistan in January of 2012; and
WHEREAS, While deployed in Afghanistan on May 29, 2012 and just five days away from his scheduled return home, .Breg Hughes' Humvee was struck by a roadside bomb containing a fifty gallon drum of accelerant (fuel); and
WHEREAS, The deadly blast killed one person and injured five others; and
WHEREAS, Severely injured, Breg Hughes and his team extinguished the fire, and
WHEREAS, Breg Hughes sustained third-degree burns over fifty per cent of his body with inhalation injuries; and
WHEREAS, While Allison Hughes was giving birth to the couple's second son Gavin back home, Breg Hughes was being airlifted to The United States Army Institute of Surgical Research Burn Center in San Antonio, Texas; and
WHEREAS, Breg Hughes reqviired ten skin grafts and another six operations during a four month hospitalization that included two months in the intensive care unit; and
WHEREAS, Following her release from the hospital. Allison Hughes, also a veteran of Iraq conflict, reunited with her husband in San Antonio...
