RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Julian Johnson served his country with distinction as a member of the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II; and

 

WHEREAS, Julian Johnson graduated from Tilden Technical High School in 1942 and began working at National Star Product as a lab assistant while attending night school at the Illinois Institute of Technology; and

 

WHEREAS, In the summer of 1943 Julian Johnson entered the service and was assigned to the United States Army's Costal Artillery Corps; and

 

WHEREAS, Julian Johnson applied to the Air Corps Cadet School and was accepted; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1944, with the rank of Corporal, Julian Johnson, was transferred from Kessler Army Air Field in Biloxi Mississippi to the Tuskegee Institute for pre-flight training and was accepted into the Bombardier training program; and

 

WHEREAS, While awaiting navigator class, Julian Johnson attended flexible Gunnery School training at Tyndall Arm Air Field School and was awarded Aerial Gunner Wings; and

 

WHEREAS, Julian Johnson returned to die Tuskegee Army Airfield and was transferred to Midland Army Air Field in Texas where he became part of the Bombardier Class and completed an additional 124 flying hours; and

 

WHEREAS, After the war, Julian Johnson went on to have a brilliant career as a chemical engineer; and

 

WHEREAS, Julian Johnson served as a Senior Research Engineer engaged in electrochemical research; and

 

WHEREAS, During his long and illustrious career, Julian Johnson worked at Armor, Dial, Westco Chemical, Soft Sheen Products and the RR Donnelly Company; and.

 

WHEREAS, Julian Johnson is truly an example of what journalist Tom Brokaw called "Our Greatest Generation;" and

 

WHEREAS, Julian Johnson will be honored at a special celebration on the eve of Veteran's Day at Wintrust's Grand Banking Hall, 231 South La Salle Street, Chicago, Illinois; and

 

 

WHEREAS, Julian Johnson is exceedingly worthy of our highest admiration and esteem; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this ninth day of November, 2016 do hereby express our sincere appreciation to Julian Johnson for his military service; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Julian Johnson.
