RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Mark Robbins served his country with valor and great distinction as a member of the Navy SEALs Special Warfare Operator 1st Class with Seal Team 5; and
WHEREAS, The Navy SEALs are the U.S. Navy's primary special operations force and part of the Naval Special Warfare Command; and
WHEREAS, The Navy SEALs, America's "silent warriors," conduct counter-terrorism missions, hostage rescue, and small-unit maritime military operations that originate from, and return to rivers, oceans, deltas, swamps and coastal regions; and

WHEREAS, Mark Robbins was a member of this distinguished, elite unit; and
WHEREAS, While serving in the Al Anbar province near a farming area in Habbiniyah, Iraq, Mark Robbins was severely injured during a firefight on April 2, 2007; and
WHEREAS, After killing an insurgent armed with a RPG7, Mark Robbins was shot in the right eye with a 7.62X 39 millimeter round; and.
WHEREAS, The bullet entered Mark Robbins' skull through his eye an exited from behind his right ear; and
WHEREAS, At first, Seal Team 5 unit members though Mark Robbins' wound might prove to be fatal; and
WHEREAS, Although gravely wounded, Mark Robbins refused to be carried from the field of combat and walked under his own power to the Medivac chopper; and
WHEREAS, Mark Robbins distinguished himself in combat and was recognized by a grateful nation with the awarding of a Purple Heart and Bronze Star; and
WHEREAS, Mark Robbins served his country with distinction for three-and-a-half years; and
WHEREAS, Following his discharge from active duty, Mark Robbins joined the Lake County Sherriff's Department and is presently assigned to the SWAT Team; and
WHEREAS, Retired Special Warfare Operator 1st Class (SEAL) Mark Robbins is exceedingly worthy of our highest admiration and esteem; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this ninth day of November, 2016 do hereby express our sincere appreciation to Mark Robbin...
