RESOLUTION HONORING ST. STANISLAUS KOSTKA SCHOOL
WHEREAS, St. Stanislaus Kostka School is being given Chicago's first Lighthouse School status on November 17, 2016; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been informed ofthe great accomplishment of this school by the Honorable Brian Hopkins, Alderman ofthe 2nd Ward; and
WHEREAS, St. Stanislaus Kostka School (known as St. Stans), founded in 1874 on Chicago's North Side, has served the Wicker Park, Bucktown and West Town communities for over 140 years; and
WHEREAS, St. Stans is a ministry of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church uniting families of diverse backgrounds and faith with a Christ-centered education in grades from pre-school through eighth grade; and
WHEREAS, St. Stans has been awarded Lighthouse School Status for achieving Franklin Covey's Leader in Me whole school transformation process; and
WHEREAS, The Leader in Me Program teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment; and
WHEREAS, This is the 8th year that St. Stanislaus Kostka School has implemented the program and has seen a significant difference in how students take responsibility for their actions; and
WHEREAS, Only 242 schools worldwide have achieved Lighthouse School status, and St. Stans is the only school in Chicago to receive this noteworthy award; and
WHEREAS, Other schools in Chicago have noted the success ofthe Leader in Me Program at St. Stans and are therefore implementing their own program; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 9th day of November, 2016, do hereby congratulate St. Stanislaus Kostka School for being named a Lighthouse School.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to St. Stanislaus Kostka School as a token of our admiration and appreciation. *
