RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, The Members of this Chamber were deeply saddened to learn of the passing on October 31, 2016 of Dr. A. Todd Davis at the age of 74; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Davis was born November 11, 1941. An academically driven youth, he graduated from Stanford University in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in biology and philosophy,-then went on to matriculate at the University of Minnesota Medical School, where he graduated with honors and was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society; and

WHEREAS, After completing his residency, Dr. Davis was an Epidemiology Intelligence Officer in New Jersey from 1971-1973 before being recruited by Henry Nadler, M.D. to lead the Division of Infectious Diseases at Children's Memorial Hospital (now Lurie Children's Hospital) in 1973; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Davis was recognized as an innovative collaborator and outstanding communicator, who built an extraordinary career that lasted more than 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Davis held several "acting" administrative titles in his career: Division Head of Kidney Diseases, Critical Care, and Endocrinology as well as Acting Chair of Pediatrics for over one year as well as co-Director of the Siragusa Wellness Center from 2000-2005; and

 

WHEREAS, A well-respected pediatrician, Dr. Davis included among his honors: Children's Memorial Hospital Outstanding Teacher Award; the Chicago Pediatric Society Archibald L. Hoyne Award; Honorary Member of the Peruvian Pediatric Society; Mentor of the Year award from the Feinberg School of Medicine, and the A. Todd Davis Endowed Chair of Academic General Pediatrics; and

WHEREAS, Among Dr. Davis' many patients over the years was Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who as a teenager sustained a life-threatening injury but regained his health thanks to Dr. Davis' skill and compassion; and

WHEREAS, Dr. A. Todd Davis is survived by his loving wife, Jane; their children, Arnold, Tony, Andrew, and Elizabeth, and their grandchildren, Ellie, Michael, Hannah, Leah, Audrey, and Evelyn; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, assembled this ninth day of November, 2016, do hereby honor the life and memory of Dr. A. Todd Davis and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. A. Todd Davis as a sign of our sympathy and good wishes.
