Dear Mayor Emanuel:

I am writing to submit my resignation from the position of Chicago City Clerk effective 11:59 PM, December 4^th, 2016. It has been a distinct pleasure and an honor to serve the people of the City of Chicago.

I feel proud of the work I've done in the Office of the City Clerk. Along with my terrific staff, I have revolutionized an office that had fallen into antiquity and near obscurity. The only thing almost as fulfilling as the work itself has been building and nurturing relationships with my colleagues in the Chicago City Council. That chamber is full of dedicated and accomplished public servants, perhaps none more so than yourself, Mr. Mayor. It has been a joy working so closely with you, and I look forward to continuing to do so in my new role as Illinois State Comptroller.

In the meantime, I wish all the best for you and the great City of Chicago.
