RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the national political climate has produced fear and anxiety among many City of Chicago residents, particularly among people of color, immigrants, Muslims, Jews, and members of the LGBT community; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, affirm that the City of Chicago will continue to, honor and protect the rights of all residents, regardless of race, ethnicity, country of origin, religion, age, immigration status, criminal record, sexual orientation, and gender identity; and, be it

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we condemn racism, xenophobia, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, and all other forms of hate; and, be it

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we reaffirm our commitment to being a sanctuary for all immigrants, refugees, and their families; and will vigorously oppose any federal efforts that conflict with our Welcoming City Ordinance or reverse critical protections to immigrants, refugees, and their families; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we commit to ending the over-criminalization of Black and Brown communities and advancing efforts to reduce the number of individuals in the criminal justice, juvenile justice, and immigrant detention systems while reinvesting the resulting savings to address acute education, healthcare, employment (including minority-owned small business development), housing, and environmental needs in the communities most affected by over-criminalization across the City; and we will vigorously oppose all federal efforts that conflict with these commitments; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we commit to the reform of law enforcement, including the Chicago Police Department; the end of the unconstitutional use of stop and frisk; and the beginning of a policing model where communities and police work together to address community concerns; and we will vigorously oppose all federal efforts that conflict with these efforts; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we will never waver oh our commitment to ensuring women's rights in healthcare, in the workplace, in the home, and in the streets; and we will vigorously oppose all federal efforts that infringe upon those rights; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we remain deeply committed to religious freedom, and will vigorously defend all Chicago residents from discriminatory treatment or persecution on the basis of their faith; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that vvc honor ihe rights of all individuals within the LGBT community to live without fear of discrimination or harassment; and wc will vigorously oppose all efforts to roll back the progress we have made as a society in advancing LGBT rights; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we will continue to stand up for the needs of Chicago's low-income and working families, and will vigorously oppose all federal efforts that jeopardize the well-being of these families; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we are committed to addressing the effects of environmental degradation and climate change, and will vigorously oppose conflicting federal efforts; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we will use every resource available to us to oppose any federal efforts that compromise the safety or well-being of Chicago residents; and|1010|
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we call on all Chicago residents to stand united in defense of our common values and each other's civil and human rights so that we can protect and expand upon that which makes this City great.
