TRIBUTE TO THE LATE RABBI DANIEL MOSCOWITZ

 

A resolution adopted by the City Council of the City of Chicago, sponsored by Alderman Debra L. Silverstein, 50th Ward -

 

WHEREAS, The Jewish community of Chicago is commemorating the third anniversary of the passing of Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz, who dedicated his life to the spiritual wellbeing of others; and

 

WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz was the regional director of Lubavitch-Chabad of Illinois and spearheaded the growth of Chabad-Lubavitch centers to nearly 40 locations in 21 Illinois cities, with schools and services for seniors and children with special needs; and

 

WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz was active in Jewish communal leadership on a national and global level; he was chairman of the executive committee of the Chicago Rabbinical Council; a member of the executive committee of Merkos L'lnyonei Chinuch, the educational arm of Chabad-Lubavitch; a visible leader of the International Conference of Chabad Emissaries; and a regular at Hanukkah menorah-lighting ceremonies at Daley Plaza; and

 

WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz forged a lasting legacy for the people of Chicago, and his untimely passing left an indelible mark on the city's Jewish community; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this twenty-ninth day of March, 2017, commemorate the third anniversary of the passing of Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and
