Ladies and Gentlemen:
At the request of the Commissioner of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection, I transmit herewith an ordinance amending the Municipal Code with regard to staffing requirements at coin-operated laundries.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
SECTION 1. Section 4-6-040 of the Municipal Code of Chicago is hereby amended by deleting the language stricken through and by inserting the language underscored, as follows:
4-6-040 Laundry service. ,

(d) Additional duties - Coin-operated, self-service laundrvknmdhcs. In addition to the duties set forth in subsection (c) of this section, the licensee of any coin-operated, self-servicer-eem-operated laundry shall have a duty to:
(1) ensure that (i)-at least one attendant is physically present on the licensed premises
between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. 11:30 p.m., if and while the licensed premises is
open for business during such hours or any portion thereof; and (ii) at least two attendants are is
physically present on the licensed premises between the hours of 11:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., if and
while the licensed premises is open for business during such hours or any portion thereof;
if the coin-operated, self-service, coin operated laundry is open for business between the hours of 11:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., (i) install and maintain a time-lapse video surveillance system to monitor the licensed premises during such hours, and (ii) retain on the licensed premises the video surveillance footage for a period of at least 30 days;
