ORDINANCE


BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
SECTION 1. Section 7-12-295 of the Municipal Code of Chicago is hereby created, inserting the language below, as follows:
7-12-295 Confinement of animals in unattended motor vehicles.
No person shall confine any animal in a motor vehicle in such a manner that places it in a life or health threatening situation by exposure to a prolonged period of extreme heat or cold, without proper ventilation or other protection from such heat or cold;
Any person, animal control officer, or law enforcement officer who reasonably believes that this Section is being violated shall have authority to enter such motor vehicle by any reasonable means under the circumstances after making a reasonable effort to locate the motor vehicle's operator;
Any person who shall violating any provision of subsection (a) shall be fined not less than $300.00 nor more than $1,000.00 for each offense.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect following passage and publication.
