^0ll6T6ClS' 'n ^ne 'a^e evenin9 °f February 19, 2017, firefighters from Engine Company 93 of the Chicago Fire Department responded to an emergency call by the Office of Emergency Management and Communications on the 101st block of South LaSalle Street, a residential block; and

 

WHEREAS, Upon responding, the company found a one and one-half story residential building on fire; and

 

WHEREAS, Under the command of Chief Adrian Bigott, of the 22nd Battalion, and led by Captain Barry Temple, Engineer Andy Jankowicz and firefighters Edward Gudowicz, Anthony Licato, and Dennis Boylan immediately prepared to extinguish the fire by leading out a hose line, preparing the connection to the engine's water supply, and finding and securing a source of water; and

 

WHEREAS, Despite the house being filled with smoke and fire, the company entered the house to put out the fire and to search for a possible victim trapped and confined to a wheelchair; and

 

WHEREAS, Encountering two victims who were confused and disoriented by the smoke, the members of Engine 93 removed them from the house to safety; and

 

WHEREAS, While battling the fire, Captain Temple heard a faint cry for help and, with Firefighter Licato, searched for the source of the cry; and

 

WHEREAS, Plunging through the intense smoke and heat of the flames, they found an elderly man in a hospital bed, unable to walk, and in zero visibility, traveled more than 30 feet to remove the man to safety; and

 

WHEREAS, Only two of the three people saved needed to be transported to Roseland Hospital, in fair condition, suffering no burns and only minor smoke-related injuries; and

 

 

WHEREAS, If not for the courageous and coordinated efforts of the members of Engine 93, acting as a team, events could have easily turned tragic; and

 

WHEREAS, The members of Engine 93 performed their duties with honor and in the highest tradition of the Chicago Fire Department; and

 

WHEREAS, All of Chicago is grateful for the heroic acts of the firefighters of Engine Company 93 of the Roseland neighborhood; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this twenty-sixth day of July 2017, do hereby honor and salute Engine 93 for their heroic actions under dangerous and life-threatening conditions; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Engine 93 and placed on permanent record in the personnel files of each of the members as a token of our appreciation and esteem.
