RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Luke Austin has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 83; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A longtime Naperville resident, Luke Austin was a widely admired educator and the loving husband for 53 years of the late Cassie; and

WHEREAS, Luke Austin was the much-adored father of Rhonda, Kenneth and the late Renita to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, A native of Waco, Texas, Luke Austin was a standout football player at A.J. Moore High School and played football for A&M University where he earned a degree in physical education; and

WHEREAS, Luke Austin came to Chicago in 1959 where he tried out for the Chicago Bears; and

WHEREAS, When he did not make the team, Luke Austin began his career as a teacher, coach and mentor to generations of students; and

WHEREAS, Luke Austin was an educator for 35 years and retired as head of the Physical Education Department at Jane Addams Middle School in Bolingbrook; and

WHEREAS, Luke Austin was also a 54-year member of Neighborhood United Methodist Church in Maywood; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Luke Austin serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Luke Austin to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Luke Austin imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of October, 2017, do hereby commemorate Luke Austin for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Luke Austin.
